Baseball:
Talk about a big win.
Northview scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning to stun Maranatha, 12-5, on Friday night at Brookside Park in Pasadena.
The Vikings secured their most impressive victory of the season.
Over the last four years, Maranatha has more wins than any of the 35 programs within the 210 Prep Sports coverage zone.
Matthew Vazquez went six strong innings for MHS, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Vazquez didn’t issue a walk and fanned six NHS batters.
Northview got two runs off Carson Kelly on one hit and a walk before Kelly was pulled without registering an out.
And then Jacob Yun surrendered eight runs (five earned) on three hits and two walks over that seventh inning.
Noah Martinez singled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.
Seth Robles went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, including one via sac fly.
Jayden Chagollan walked, doubled, scored and had one RBI.
Rudy Rosales doubled and scored.
Zeke Martinez doubled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.
Isaiah Benavidez went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.
Jake Aguilar walked and scored.
Joey Ramos walked, singled and scored twice.
Michael Mendoza had two RBIs.
Fernando Casas scored and had one RBI.
AJ Flores went 3 1/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits.
Flores issued four walks and registered five strikeouts.
Evan Bustamante allowed an unearned run on one hit over 1 2/3 innings.
Bustamante walked one and fanned one MHS batter.
Erik Jimenez got the win after a scoreless innings in relief.
Jimenez allowed one hit, didn’t walk anyone and struck out one.
John Hernandez got the save after going a perfect inning in relief, and that included one strikeout.
Eric Zdunek doubled, tripled, scored twice and had one RBI.
Josh Proctor doubled and scored.
Zach Strickland walked and scored.
Lukus Perez went 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
Up next: The Vikings travel to Cal High on Monday at 3:30.
And the Minutemen host Vista Murrieta on Tuesday at 3:30.
