College Baseball:
Citrus College took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning over their visitors from Mt. SAC.
The Owls needed nine outs to snap the Mounties 17-game win streak.
MSAC, however, scored three runs in the top of the seventh and twice more in the ninth to claim a 6-2 victory.
Isaac Gonzales had an impressive outing for the Owls.
Gonzales went six innings and allowed just an unearned run on five hits.
He issued three walks and struck out four MSAC batters.
Jonathan Maldonado was charged with the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk over one inning.
Landon White went 3-for-4 with a walk and one run.
Ty Thomas singled twice and scored.
Miguel Perez went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and one RBI.
Jackson Giacone singled twice and scored.
Tyler Stull walked, scored and had one RBI.
Joel Gutierrez doubled, and Diego Ortiz scored one run.
Hudson Castillo went three scoreless innings for the Mounties.
He allowed three hits, walked one and struck out a pair of Citrus batters.
Joey Peralta was charged with two runs on four hits over two innings.
Peralta walked one and struck out one.
Dom Versluis (1IP), Matt Viveros (2/3), Brenden Menchaca (1 1/3) and Sam Silversmith (1) combined to go four scoreless innings in relief.
Luke Willison walked twice, scored and his RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Citrus a 1-0 lead.
Three batters later, Ezekiel Escalera’s RBI double the Owls advantage at 2-0.
Dustin Yela went 3-for-5.
Isaac Nava walked and had a pair of singles.
Adrian Sanchez went 2-for-4 for the Owls.
Nathan Hellein scored on Willison’s fifth-inning double.
Up next: The Mounties will host the SCC cellar dwellers from LA Harbor (7-16, 1-11) on Tuesday at 3 in the first of a three-game set.
The Owls travel to Grossmont today (Friday) at 1 in a nonconference game.
