Nate Harwood Goes Distance & Doesn’t Allow an Earned Run in RHP’s 5-3 Prep League Victory Over Flintridge Prep

Baseball:

What are the odds of winning a game in which the following happens: The opponent’s starting pitcher went 3 2/3 scoreless innings and got all 11 of his outs via strikeout, the first four batters in your lineup combine to go 1-for-11 with eight strikeouts, and the opposition out-hits you 8-5, including 3-0 in extra-base hits?

Probably not very good.

However, that’s exactly what happened in Rio Hondo Prep’s 5-3 victory over Flintridge Prep in the Prep League opener for both programs.

Will Grable was that starting pitcher, and he went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits, not walking a batter and striking out 11.

The Kares got to Rocco Sablan for five runs (four earned) on two hits and one walk over two innings.

RHP scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and got three more in the sixth.

Noah Penunuri had a two-run single in the sixth to give RHP its first lead of the game at 4-3.

Penunuri also scored two runs.

Nate Curtis singled and scored.

Jacob Gomez’s RBI single extended the Kares lead to 5-3.

Ivan Tkach walked and scored.

Easton Jara scored, and Diego Householder had one RBI.

Nate Harwood went the distance to earn the win.

Harwood surrendered eight hits, walked a pair and struck out three Flintridge Prep batters.

None of the three runs charged to Harwood were earned.

Grable went 2-for-4 with a double and scored one run.

Gavin Fong singled and scored.

Ethan Park singled and doubled.

Rowan Schaeffer went 2-for-4.

Will Koh doubled in the loss.

Calvin Chen walked and scored.

Nic Aparicio drove in a run on a sac fly.

Up next: The Wolves host Shalhevet on Wednesday at 3:30.

The Kares travel to Flintridge Prep on Friday at 3:30.
