Baseball:
Los Osos outlasted Maranatha, 3-2, in nine innings at the SoCal Showdown Tournament.
The Grizzlies needed and got a run in the top of the seventh to extend the game.
Zach Strickland went four innings, and he allowed an unearned run on one hit.
Strickland walked one and fanned four.
Matthew Vazquez provided four innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits.
Vazquez issued a pair of walks and struck out five LOHS batters.
Bradley Loiacono was charged with the loss after allowing the ninth inning run on two hits and a walk.
Trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh, and with one out, Josh Chairez singled.
Wyatt Mohler’s two-out double plated Chairez with the tying run.
In the ninth, Hunter Meyer doubled with two outs, and one batter later, Justin Yeutter singled him home.
Mohler gave LOHS a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a sac fly.
Chairez went 2-for-5 and scored a pair of runs.
Jordan Mejico went 5 1/3 innings, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit.
Mejico didn’t issue a walk and struck out five MHS batters.
Camden Ullah earned the win after going 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
Ullah allowed one hit, didn’t walk a batter and struck out a pair of Minutemen.
Doug Zuniga singled and scored.
Noe Zavala was hit by pitch and scored on Trevor Rivas’ bunt in Maranatha’s two-run third inning.
Mo Aguirre singled for MHS.
Up next: Los Osos travels to Bonita on Friday at 3:30.
Maranatha travels to Glendora next Tuesday.
