Baseball:
Tuesday’s Perfect Game Tournament showdown between Maranatha and Etiwanda was so even in every statistical category that it almost seemed fitting that it ended in a 10-10 tie.
In a battle of CIF-SS championship programs and coaches, both teams had a couple big innings.
MHS scored four runs in the top of the first and sixth innings.
EHS answered with five runs in the second, and they needed to score three times in the bottom of the seventh to salvage a 10-10 tie.
Both teams had eight separate batters collect at least one hit, they scored in four of their seven at-bats, and MHS and EHS had three consecutive innings of offensive futility.
The pitching staffs of the Minutemen and the Eagles struck out seven opposing batters apiece.
Maranatha scored at least one run off each of the four Etiwanda pitchers.
To be fair to AJ Salazar, the run he was charged with in the top of the seventh was unearned.
Yahir Treto went 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs.
Trevor Rivas drew a pair of walks, scored twice and his two-run HR in the top of the sixth gave Maranatha a 9-6 lead.
Dylan Garcia went 2-for-3 with a walk, triple, run and RBI.
Lukus Perez walked, doubled and scored two runs.
Zach Strickland had a double, run and one RBI.
Josh Proctor doubled and scored.
Doug Zuniga singled, scored and drove in one run.
Eric Zdunek walked, singled, scored and had one RBI.
Gabe Barragan was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Etiwanda pounded out 12 hits off three MHS pitchers.
Jaeden Toki went 3-for-4 with a walk, double, run and two RBIs.
Ryan Severns scored and had a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Severns finished with three RBIs.
James Milam tripled and scored two runs.
LJ Roellig’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 10-10.
Roellig scored three times.
Angel Mejia went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Josh Adams walked, singled twice, scored two runs and drove in one.
Jaxson Milius walked, singled and scored.
