Sending out congratulations to all 25 athletes from 210 Prep Sports programs that qualified for next weekend’s CIF-SS State Championships.
And to those who came close.
Wrestling is arguably the most grueling of any high school sport, and that includes physically and mentally.
In all, 14 girls and 11 boys punched their ticket to compete inside the Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield.
There were five individual CIF-SS Masters champs this past weekend at Sonora High School.
That list includes Northview’s Sumaya Lazaro (140 Blue) and Delarie Juarez (145 Blue), West Covina’s Julie Cimarusti (140 Gold), Glendora’s Samantha Sachs (130 Blue) and Bonita’s Tristan Fernandez (150 Gold).
The Northview girls are sending eight competitors, and they finished second in team points.
Bonita’s Fernandez will be joined by teammates Elias Echeveste (106) and Dylan Garcia (138).
The 15th-place showing by the BHS is a program best.
Northview is sending three of their own.
Elijah Butler (106), Elias Flores (120) and Michael Vassalle (190) finished second, third and third, respectively.
Jacob Bell (150) and Carlos Sutton (215) will represent Etiwanda.
The event takes place this Thursday through Saturday evening.
