Girls Basketball:
La Salle handed Flintridge Prep its lone loss of the regular season back on December 28th.
The Lancers claimed a 54-44 victory in the semifinal round of the Glendora Tournament.
The Wolves, however, got a chance to even the score in Thursday’s first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs at La Salle.
And Flintridge Prep didn’t have to worry about the Lancers’ leading scorer, Casey Higgins, who was injured last week.
Casey’s teammates, though, picked up the slack and led throughout a 48-33 victory.
Aislin Tamez Torres led La Salle with 11 points.
Kaden Cortes hit a pair of 3’s, and she finished with 10 points.
Cortes has been part of more wins (107) than any player in program history.
Riley Higgins and Julianne Tan chipped in with nine points apiece.
Tan had two of the Lancers’ four 3-pointers.
Maddie Smith scored a game-high 21 points for Flintridge Prep.
Smith also had eight rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Megan Quoch had six points for the Wolves.
Up next: The Lancers will host Chaminade on Saturday at 7.
The Eagles (14-12) defeated Claremont, 52-45, in their first-round contest.
Quotable:
La Salle coach, Scott Wiard: “While we certainly miss Casey, our other players are really talented and took advantage of their opportunity tonight. We had a great week of practice, and I felt like this group was ready to show they’re a division 1 team that has played a tough schedule to prepare for games like these. The entire team was really locked into the scouting report tonight and did a great job on defense.”
