Girls Soccer:
That 140-mile roundtrip ride turned out to be a satisfying trek for the Maranatha girls’ soccer program.
The Lady Minutemen went to Ventura in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.
And they headed back to Pasadena with a 2-1 victory and a spot in Friday’s second round.
Ryley Dunn scored a free kick in the first half to give MHS a 1-0 lead.
As the first half neared its end, Ventura’s Kaitlyn Wright scored to even the score at 1-1.
The game remained tied with 24 minutes to go.
And that’s when Elisia Parker played a through ball past the defense for Jai Scipio to score the game winning goal.
Anna Bowers had nine big saves in goal for MHS.
Up next: The Lady Minutemen will host Adelanto on Friday at 5.
The Saints (15-3-2) edged Rowland, 1-0, in their first-round contest.
