Editor’s Note: For the record, area coaches have tried to reach out to Walnut and let their coach know about this site for the past three years, and he’s made it obvious that he’s not interested in our coverage, and that’s why you won’t read anything about their individual champs in stories on 210 Prep Sports. As the only local reporter who travels to Bakersfield for CIF State, I attempted to add their program to my site, but without help or interest, it wasn’t meant to be.
At Saturday’s Palomares League finals at Bonita High School, Walnut claimed seven individual titles, Ayala had three and both Bonita and Diamond Bar earned two apiece.
The top three in each weight class move on to next week’s CIF-SS Individuals.
Bonita’s two champs happen to live under the same roof.
Freshman Jacob Fernandez claimed the 132-pound crown.
He pinned Walnut’s Jason Paganos at 1:26 of their title bout.
Jacob’s older brother Tristan won his fourth Palomares League championship.
Fernandez stuck Ayala’s John Gonzales in 49 seconds during the 15o-pound title match.
As mentioned, Ayala left La Verne with three individual title holders.
It all started at 113 pounds.
Jayren Chan pinned Ayden Tran (Walnut) at 2:37
The Bulldogs’ Mason Eligio pinned Walnut’s Ty Thompson at 1:09 to secure the 165-pound division.
And AHS heavyweight Isaiah Romero defeated Claremont’s Jake Wise, 6-0, in the 285-pound title bout.
