Boys Basketball:

Bonita had a relatively comfortable lead on Tuesday night in a Palomares League showdown with second-place Walnut.

The Bearcats led the Mustangs by 10 at the half and 14 after three quarters.

WHS, however, stormed back in the fourth with a 22-10 run.

BHS, though, would hold on for a 55-53 victory.

Carson Zylstra scored all 15 of his points beyond the 3-point arc, and they all came in the second quarter.

Beau Rudometkin had 12 big points, all in the second half, including a 3-of-4 effort from the free-throw line in the fourth period.

Nathan Yen scored a game-high 22 points for Walnut.

Yen hit a pair of 3’s, scored 16 second-half points, including 11 in the fourth quarter.

Isaiah Leon chipped in with 12 points.

Myles Wainwright scored all nine of his points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter run.

Hunter Smith had seven for the Bearcats, while James Kim and Drew Sanchez scored six points apiece.

The loss means the Mustangs are now two games back of first-place Glendora with two to play, including a season finale against the Tartans in Walnut.

BHS is one-game back of third-place Ayala.

The Bearcats finish the regular season at Glendora on Thursday and they visit Ayala next Tuesday.
