Girls Basketball:

La Salle handed Flintridge Prep its first loss of the season in the semifinal round of the Glendora Tournament.

It was a battle of two of the SGV area’s elite programs.

FP and LSHS entered the showdown with a combined record of 24-1.

The Lancers led throughout Saturday’s 54-44 victory over the Wolves in the late game at GHS.

La Salle’s second-half lead nearly reached 20 points.

They also held Flintridge Prep’s offensive star (Maddie Smith) scoreless in the second half.

The Wolves (10-1), known for their scoring prowess, didn’t hit their first 3-pointer until there was 2:36 to play in the third quarter.

Casey Higgins was the most dominant player on the court with 21 points and her physical play on the boards.

Higgins also converted on seven of her eight free-throw attempts.

Aislin Tamez Torres chipped in with eight points, while Maddy Chiang and Julianne Tan scored seven points apiece in the win.

Kaden Cortes only scored three points, but she was part of her 100th win since joining the Lancers for the 2021-22 season.

That is more than any player in program history.

Smith led Prep with a team-high 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Akemi Fu contributed 13 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Up next: La Salle and Flintridge Prep will finish Glendora Tournament play on Monday.

The Wolves battle Sierra Pacific at 6:30 in the third-place game, and the Lancers take on Sierra Canyon at 8 in the title game.

The Trailblazers (11-0) are ranked 12th in the nation by MaxPreps.
