Something had to give when Glendora and Ayala met up Thursday night in Chino Hills.

The Bulldogs had won five in a row and 10 of their last 11 games.

And the visiting Tartans entered the Palomares League opener for both programs on an eight-game win streak.

Trailing by nine points in the third quarter, Glendora would rally for a 72-66 victory in a physical and spirited game.

GHS outscored AHS, 42-33, in the second half to secure a ninth consecutive win.

Colton Gray scored a game-high 23 points, including 15 in the second half to go with 14 rebounds.

Gray had nine fourth-quarter points before fouling out.

Max Hilgenfeldt chipped in with 18 points, including a 4-for-4 effort from the free-throw line.

Ayala had four players in double figures.

Josiah Yang led the way with 15 points.

Jeremy Serrano provided 13 points, while Jacky Zhao and Joshua Townsell scored 11 points apiece.

Sebastian Demano finished with nine points and three assists for Glendora.
