Boys Basketball:
Many local basketball fans were hoping to see a Glendora-San Dimas final at the Gary Prestesater Tournament.
The Tartans cruised to a 71-54 victory over San Marino in the first semifinal at San Dimas High School.
Capistrano Valley Christian, however, had no interest in cooperating, and they secured a 76-62 triumph over the Saints.
Matthew and Michael Ahern gave SDHS headaches all night.
Matthew hit five 3’s and scored a game-high 25 points, and Michael connected on three 3-pointers, and he finished with 23 points.
Benjamin Makelela added 22 points for the Eagles.
CVC had leads of 39-26, and 63-42 at halftime and the end of the third quarter, respectively.
Luke Chavez led San Dimas with 18 points, including eight second-quarter points.
Nathan Yearout scored 11 of his 14 in the second half.
Yearout had a team-high four 3-pointers.
Jeremiah Garzon scored 13 points.
Nine of Angelo Fares’ 11 points came from behind the 3-point line.
Up next: CVC will battle Glendora in the tournament final tonight (Saturday) at 7:30.
San Marino and San Dimas face off at 6 in the third-place game.
