Football:

With four games to play in the 2024 regular season, Bonita, La Canada and Northview are the final three SGV area programs without a loss.

The Vikings 38-6 average margin of victory is tops among the 30 teams this site covers.

Northview’s 32-point advantage through the first six weeks is three points better than Rio Hondo Prep (45-16) and Bonita (39-10), who are a combined 12-1, and both of whom possess a 29-point average margin of victory.

The 6-0 start is the program’s best since 2018.

Back then, the Vikings went 12-1, and they earned a spot in the semifinal round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs.

The NHS defense has pitched two shutouts, and they’ve only allowed two opponents to score in double digits.

That includes a 33-10 week-two victory over Glendora, and six days later, Northview defeated Covina, 49-21, at Covina District Field.

While there are still four games to play, Northview could go a long way towards a fourth consecutive Valle Vista League championship with a win over San Dimas on Friday at Covina District Field.

NHS had to share the league crown with Diamond Ranch and SDHS in 2023, and with SDHS in 2021, in spite of defeating the Saints in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Miguel Guillen leads the Vikings’ defense with 38 tackles, and he’s followed by Rudy Velazquez (33), Robert Lucero (29), Byron Tovar (28), Isaiah Limas (24), CJ Carrillo (24), Pedro Solórzano (22) and Gabriel Velasco (20).

Isaiah Limas has a team-high six sacks and Matthew Gonzales has sacked three opposing quarterbacks.

Isaiah Lucero, Robert Lucero, Ezekiel Lucero, Jaishon Bledsoe, Dominic Munoz and CJ Carrillo have one pick apiece.

Just like Northview, the San Dimas offense depends heavily on their ground game.

Julian Vigil has been outstanding throughout 2024.

The San Dimas senior leads the Saints in rushing yards (812), rushing TD’s (12), receptions (13), yards (345) and receiving TD’s (3).

Caleb Morquecho (70-for-471 & 8 TD’s) and Tristan Fierro (53-for-352 & three TD’s) have also been key to SDHS averaging 323 rushing yards per game.

Along with Vigil, Jeremiah Gibson Fernandez has been a reliable receiver with five catches for 200 yards and one TD.

Northview has a successful offense of its own, and just like SDHS, they spend much of their time on the ground.

But their quarterback, Erik Jimenez, has done a solid job at running the NHS offense.

He’s completed 50-of-85 for 831 yards.

Jimenez has tossed eight TD passes and one interception.

Through the first six games, Jimenez has a 59-percent completion ratio.

Keanu Tauvao has put the Northview rushing attack on his shoulders.

Tauvao has totaled 836 yards on 86 carries.

And that includes an average of 167 yards per game.

Tauvao has 11 rushing TD’s, and he would almost certainly be over the 1,000-yard mark, but he sat out the week-five 35-6 victory over Village Christian.

Dominic Munoz has chipped in with 189 rushing yards on 27 carries and two TD’s.

Isaiah Lucero leads the Northview receiving corps.

Lucero has team-highs in receptions (30), yards (660) and receiving TD’s (9).

Jaishon Bledsoe (11-for-243 & 2 TD’s), CJ Carrillo (7-for-97) and Tauvao (5-for-45) have also been trusted targets of Jimenez.

For what it’s worth, Calpreps, the site that ranks programs throughout the state, and from which CIF-SS bases their first-round playoff pairings off of, has projected a 35-14 victory for Northview.
