Football:
It took Chino five weeks longer to secure victory No. 1 of the 2024 season than they would have liked.
But they sure picked a good time to get it.
The Cowboys hosted Walnut in the Hacienda League opener for both programs.
In the first five weeks, the CHS offense managed just 42 points.
On Friday, though, Chino cruised to a 54-24 victory over the Mustangs.
Maximus Barroso tallied five TD’s, including two rushing and three passing.
Demetrius Alloway had a pair of rushing TD’s for the Cowboys.
CJ Gibson picked two Walnut passes.
Alejandro Llamas caught a TD pass, and Raymond Chia had one rushing TD.
Jacob Alvarado intercepted WHS to bring his season total to five.
Joseph McCoy had two sacks in Friday’s win.
Up next: Chino hosts Los Altos (3-3) next Friday at 7.

Quotable:
Chino coach, Joey LaRosa: “Happy for our kids. They’ve been through a lot of adversity this year and we’ve talked to them about staying the course and believing. Entering league, everyone is 0-0. It doesn’t matter what’s happened before, we just have to take care of business amongst ourselves, and the rest will sort itself out. Excited to see how the rest of the Hacienda League plays out, some exciting matchups and close games already.”
