Football:

Bonita is 6-0 for the first time since 2014.

And the Bearcats looked like they were about to drop a thumping on their hosts from Glendora.

They took a 21-0 lead into the second quarter.

But to their credit, the Tartans pulled to within 21-14 at the half.

BHS, however, would score the lone second half points, and they held on for a 27-14 victory over GHS in the Sierra League opener.

Just 1:50 into Friday’s contest, Travis Lippert tossed a 41-yard TD pass to Texas A&M commit, Noah Mikhail.

Five minutes later, Joseph Lara extended the lead to 14-0 after his 8-yard TD run.

And Lippert would hit Jacob Gill on a 29-yard scoring strike late in the first quarter.

Glendora got on the board, when, with 3:50 remaining in the first half, Austin Coronado scored on a 1-yard TD run.

One minute and 17 seconds later, Simon Zwick pulled Glendora to within 21-14 after his 41-yard TD run.

The Bearcats defense shut the Tartans out in the second half.

Midway through the third quarter, Cole Parra scored on a 3-yard run to give BHS a 27-14 lead.

Glendora’s Isaiah Castellano picked Lippert in the second quarter.

Lippert’s first pass in week zero was intercepted by Muir, but he hadn’t thrown a pick since.

Joseph Lara had a big game with six catches for 53 yards, and 64 rushing yards, including the 8-yard TD run.

Lippert threw for 242 yards, tossed a pair of TD’s, and, as mentioned, he was picked in the first half.

Mikhail rushed for 45 yards to go with his 41-yard TD catch.

Dylan Robinson had three catches for 20 yards.

Glendora’s Simon Zwick is not a big guy, but he has the toughness and confidence to run like one.

Zwick had a game-high 77 yards rushing on six carries.

And that included the 41-yard TD.

Sebastian Lawrence seems to be getting more and more comfortable each week, as the freshman completed 14-of-24 for 141 yards.

Tim Johnson had been outstanding of late.

Johnson caught six more passes for 62 yards.

Wyatt Gratias recovered a fumble for the GHS defense.
