Football:
After an unplanned week off, the Pasadena City College football program was back to business on Saturday.
Last Saturday, the PCC-College of the Desert game got postponed due to a lack of healthy players for COD.
Last night, the Lancers made the 73-mile drive to Victor Valley and cruised to a 45-14 victory.
PCC scored the first 49 points of the game before the Rams scored a pair of late TD’s.
The Lancers have victories over Santa Ana, West LA and Victory Valley by a combined margin of 147-56.
PCC had advantages in total offense (480-253), passing (212-156), rushing (268-97) and time of possession (35-25).
Gianni Mascolino had an effective night behind center.
Mascolino completed 10-of-15 for 181 yards and three scores.
Mascolino tossed TD passes of 4, 24 and 60 yards to Deven Muniz, Josh Soto and Josh Barron, respectively.
Kaden Taylor completed 4-of-7 for 31 yards, and he ran for 11 yards, which included a 7-yard TD run.
Micah Mendoza anchored the PCC ground game.
Mendoza carried the ball 15 times for 159 yards, and he got the Lancers on the board with a 27-yard TD run at the 8:26 mark of the first quarter.
Mendoza actually out-gained six Rams’ running backs by 62 yards.
Barron caught four passes for 123 yards and the one score.
Flip Fox had a 72-yard kickoff return for a TD.
Ayden White led the PCC defense with five tackles and Jonathan Lopez had four.
Idrique Carmichael picked a VVC pass.
Haidyn Hinojos completed 13-of-16 for 118 yards.
Hinojos connected with Brandon Solaita on TD’s of 13 and 16 yards in the fourth quarter.
Solaita finished with four catches for 60 yards and the two TD’s.
Up next: The Lancers host Chaffey on Saturday night at 6.
The Panthers (4-0) are coming off a 38-14 victory over LA Southwest College.
