Chaffey College finds itself 3-0 after Saturday’s 54-7 trouncing of visiting Santa Monica.
The Ben Buys era is off to a solid start.
The Panthers have defeated LA Valley, LA Pierce and Santa Monica by a combined margin of 112-30.
Chaffey extends its current win streak to a state-best 14 games.
Perhaps the two most telling stats on Saturday included the Panthers 30-13 advantage in first downs, and a 503-204 surge in total offense.
Julian Viramontes completed 17 of 24 for 292 yards and three TD’s.
Nehemiah Harrison had a big night with six receptions for 184 yards, including TD catches of 65 and 33 yards.
Corey Cabriales caught a game-high seven passes for 84 yards, and he and Viramontes hooked up on an 18-yard scoring strike in the third quarter that extended the Panthers lead to 40-0.
Four Chaffey running backs scored TD’s on Saturday.
Eric Copeland (8-for-61), Christian Bozeman (10-51), Jeremiah Spann (10-for-48) and Alapaki Paiva (9-for-35) combined for 195 rushing yards on 37 carries, including one scoring run apiece.
Jeremiah Burchette had a team-high six tackles for the Panthers.
Zyhaire Lewis, Lamar Gray and Ryan Woods totaled five tackles apiece.
Joshua Padilla picked a pass and brought it back for a 29-yard pick-six to go with his three tackles.
Santa Monica’s lone score came on a 38-yard TD pass from Avery Boe to Sean Grier with 10:54 to play.
Pierce Reynoso led SMC with 57 yards on 19 carries, and Grier had six catches for 76 yards.
Up next: The Panthers will host LA Southwest on Saturday at 6.
The Cougars (2-1) dropped an 81-28 ass kicking on Compton.
