Girls Tennis:

Thanks to Maranatha tennis for this report:

It wasn’t pretty, but the Lady Minutemen got the job done.

With the recent heatwave and rescheduling of matches, the Lady Minutemen haven’t had a regular practice for nearly two weeks, which is starting to show.

After three matches in four days this week, they will have the ability to get back into their practice routine next week.

For now, the coaching staff will need to work hard in real-time during the matches to try to keep the team sharp and playing tennis the right way.

Doubles #1 Mia Huang/Madison White and #2 Diana Sarksyan/Jennifer Chu anchored Maranatha today with each pair sweeping their sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, respectively.

#3 Peony Liu/Morgan Duran split their opening sets, 6-1 and 4-6, while Liu teamed up with Dora Wang for the final set.

Ahead 5-3, it looked like a win was near, but the Moors caught up and won the final 4 games to prevail, 7-5.

Singles #1 Grace Yang made her return after not playing in the previous match.

She got off to a rough start, losing 6-1 in the opening set, but bounced back after regaining her rhythm to win her final two sets, 6-3, 6-0.

#2 Mia Su started her first set strong, jumping out to a 5-1 lead, before surrendering the next 4 games to find the score even at 5-5.

Su regrouped and won the next 2 games to close out the set, 7-5.

Su had an easy time against the substitute player for the Moors, winning, 6-0.

Facing the Moors #1 next, the tables were turned, as Su failed to get a game, falling, 6-0.

After falling behind, 2-1, in her first set, #3 Kathryn Khalil won the next 5 games to win, 6-2.

She lost her next set, 6-0, to the Moors’ #1, before being subbed out for Juliana Zhang, who lost, 6-0, in her lone set.

The 4-1 Lady Minutemen head to Blair to tomorrow to take on the Vikings at 4 p.m.
