LA Pierce scored 10 points in the first quarter against their visitors from Rancho Cucamonga.
From that moment on, however, the Chaffey College defense and their quarterback did the rest in a 35-10 road victory.
Julian Viramontes completed 15 of his 25 pass attempts for 163 yards.
Viramontes tossed five TD’s and didn’t turn the ball over.
He had 25-and-3-yard TD passes to Nehemiah Harrison.
Viramontes also hooked up with Jeremiah Beck on scoring strikes of 2 and 16 yards.
Corey Cabriales’ 2-yard TD reception with 5:17 in the first quarter gave Chaffey its first lead of the game at 14-7.
Eric Copeland rushed for 45 yards on seven carries for the Panthers, and Akapaki Paiva carried the ball eight times for 31 yards.
Harrison had team-highs in catches (5) and receiving yards (77) to go with his two scores.
Beck had 39 receiving yards on four catches and the two TD’s.
Cabriales reeled in four passes for 27 yards and one score.
Deshundre Bonner, Corey Davis, Carrington Pierce and Sean McCoy all picked off passes for the Chaffey defense.
Maqael Henderson had a rough night behind center.
Henderson completed just 14 of 34 for 149 yards.
He tossed a 9-yard TD pass to Dom Cureton midway through the first quarter, and he was picked three times.
Dre Bolte was 2 of 7 for 11 yards and one interception.
Henderson led the LA Pierce ground game with 44 yards on six carries.
Tenorris Merkel had six receptions for 59 yards in the loss.
Chaffey had a 345-226 advantage in total offense, and that included a 174-61 edge on the ground.
The most telling stat of the game had to be six turnovers (four interceptions & two lost fumbles) for LA Pierce to none for the Panthers.
Up next: Chaffey will host Santa Monica next Saturday at 6.
SMC (2-0) secured a 24-10 victory over their visitors from Desert on Saturday night.
