Don’t let the final score fool you.
PCC dominated throughout Saturday’s 46-28 season-opening victory at Santa Ana College.
The Lancers led 43-7 midway through the third quarter before Santa Ana scored 21 of the game’s final 24 points.
The Dons actually had a 332-308 advantage in total offense, and they out-rushed the Lancers, 165-90.
However, the outcome was never in doubt.
Kaden Taylor completed 8 of 13 for 143 yards and that included a 66-yard TD pass to Flip Fox.
Gianni Mascolino also got time at quarterback for PCC, and he went 5 of 10 for 75 yards.
Mascolino tossed a 22-yard TD pass to Fox, and a 2-yard scoring strike to Maddux Mateski.
Micah Mendoza led the Lancers ground game with 86 yards on 15 carries.
Mendoza scored on an 8-yard TD run in the third quarter to extend the PCC lead to 31-7.
Fox caught four passes for a game-high 125 receiving yards and the two scores.
Kyden Bailey and Torriq Brumfield had eight tackles apiece to pace the PCC defense.
Jachai Pulley had six tackles and Kimborn Aseh tallied five tackles in Saturday’s road victory.
Eli Moulton, Ivan Can and Pulley had one interception apiece.
Nate Bento completed 12 of 22 for 141 yards.
Bento tossed three TD passes and as mentioned, he was picked three times.
Bento hit Malachi Pierce on TD passes of 8 and 27 yards.
He also connected with James Farmer on a 12-yard score.
Bento led Santa Ana with 75 rushing yards on 19 carries, and that included a 17-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Pierce caught seven passes for 107 yards and the two scores.
Up next: The Lancers will host West LA next Saturday at 6.
The Wildcats (0-1) dropped a 20-18 decision to LA Southwest last night.
