Football:
Neither mother nature nor the Ayala High School football program could slow the La Habra offense on a hot Friday night.
The Highlanders got out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter, and they cruised to a 42-19 victory over the Bulldogs.
La Habra held the AHS offense to 234 yards of total offense.
The Ayala ground game, which almost always sets the tone for the Bulldogs ‘O’ was held to just 34 yards on 10 carries.
Jedi Hernandez carried the ball five times for 14 yards, and Alex Way gained 17 yards on three carries.
Way had a solid effort behind center.
Way completed 24 of his 43 pass attempts for 200 yards.
And that included three TD’s.
Blake Frausto had a big night with five catches for 101 yards and one TD.
Nolan Reed had another impressive night for the AHS receiving corps.
Reed had seven receptions for 99 yards.
Brenton Smith reeled in five passes from Way for 50 yards and a TD.
Dawaun Nettingham also had a receiving TD in Friday’s loss.
It wasn’t their night, but playing competition like La Habra will only help prepare AHS for Baseline League play and the postseason.
Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Villa Park next Friday at 7.
The Spartans (1-1) host Upland this morning (Saturday) at 10 am.
