Football:

Maranatha senior Miles O’Malley earned himself a spot in some very rarified air on Friday evening.

And far more important to O’Malley and his teammates, the Minutemen improved to 2-0 after a 35-21 victory over their visitors from Fullerton High School.

The Indians led by seven points in the second half, but MHS closed out the win on a 21-0 run.

O’Malley rushed for 230 yards and that included TD runs of 65, 66 and 6 yards.

For his career, O’Malley now has 4,040 rushing yards and 53 TD’s.

Luke McNulty completed 12 of his 22 pass attempts for 97 yards.

McNulty tossed an 18-yard TD pass to Niko Vergara, and a 10-yard scoring strike to Tim O’Brien.

Nick Goodman and Bradley Loiacono had interceptions for the MHS defense.

Up next: The Minutemen travel to Kare Park in Irwindale next Saturday at 7 to battle Rio Hondo Prep.

The Kares put a 65-19 ass kicking on Pasadena Poly.

Quotable:

Maranatha senior, Miles O’Malley: “I didn’t even think about stats when I started playing football at Maranatha. Last night wasn’t just about me. It felt like a great team moment. We played together and we needed to do that against a bigger team. We played harder and we ended up coming through down the stretch. I’d really like to give credit to Niko Lareau and Matthew Rhee. They did a great job of opening holes for me. I hope to get to 5,000 yards by the end of the season.”
