Football:

For the second time in as many games, the Glendora offense was struggling to find a rhythm.

In week zero, Hunter Lemos booted a 40-yard field goal on the first drive of the game, and the Tartans suffered a 20-3 setback at the hands of visiting Chino Hills.

Fast forward eight days, and throughout much of the first half, GHS had just six points on the scoreboard, and they came from Lemos field goals of 19 and 22 yards.

Aidan Yamazaki actually set up Lemos’ second field goal when he picked a Jurupa Hills pass in the red zone and ran it back 78 yards.

With 1:06 to play in the first half, Jurupa Hills took its first and only lead of the game (9-6) when DaMarrion Hall caught a 7-yard TD pass from Ja’khai Johnson

And this is where Nazir McGlothen would take over.

McGlothen took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a GHS score and a 13-9 lead at the break.

The Glendora offense got its first TD of the season in the third quarter.

With 5:21 to play in the quarter, Sebastian Lawrence tossed a 17-yard pass into the west end zone in the hopes of getting the ball to Tim Johnson.

Lawrence succeeded in that effort, but not before the ball was tipped into the air by a JHHS defender and into the waiting hands of Johnson.

McGlothen, who was without question a game changer on Friday, all but put the game on ice when he picked a Spartans pass and returned it for a 70-yard pick-six and a 27-9 lead.

Simon Zwick and Melkon Mouradian had fourth-quarter TD runs of 43 and 22 yards, respectively.

Caden Smith had a big game on defense.

Smith picked a pair of passes, including returns of 30 and 40 yards.

Lawrence completed 10-of-11 for 85 yards and the one TD.

Johnson had five catches for 34 yards.

Zwick had a pair of receptions for 34 yards, and six carries for 46 yards.

McGlothen had 31 rushing yards on eight carries.

Harrison Warner only had two carries, but he led GHS with 55 yards on the ground and one score.

Up next: The Tartans travel to Covina District Field next Saturday to battle Northview.

The Vikings (2-0) shut out South Hills, 36-0, on Thursday night.
