Editor’s Note: I somehow lost my phone in the parking lot after the game at Citrus College, so my stats/info will be very limited in this story.
Football:
It wasn’t pretty, but a week-zero win is always a good thing.
After a slow offensive start in the first half, Chino Hills settled down and claimed a 20-3 victory over Glendora at Citrus College.
The Tartans scored on their first drive, as Hunter Lemos booted a 40-yard field goal.
Leading 3-0, and with the ball inside the CHHS 10-yard line late in the second quarter, GHS tried to draw the Huskies offside on a fourth-and-three play.
After the defense didn’t react, the Tartans called a timeout and eventually sent the offense back on the field.
A run play to the right and behind a number of blockers lost yardage and Chino Hills took over on downs.
They would drive nearly 90 yards before the end of the first half, and it was capped by an 8-yard TD pass from Alex Medyn to Cameron Bateman for a 6-3 lead at the break.
Midway through the third quarter, a Glendora punt was blocked and CHHS took over in the red zone.
On a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, Medyn snuck in behind his blockers and with some help from his backs pushing him into the west end zone.
Medyn put the game on ice with a five-yard TD run with 4:37 to play in the game.
Up next: Both teams will be in action next Friday.
The Huskies travel to Charter Oak and the Tartans will host Jurupa Hills.
