Baseball:
The San Gabriel Valley Monarchs trailed the Orange County Juice from the top of the first inning to the bottom of the eighth.
The SGVM, however, scored four runs in that decisive eighth inning and picked up a 9-7 victory over the Juice.
With a couple games to play in the Baseball Census Collegiate Summer League regular season, the Monarchs are just one-half game back of the California Outlaws for second place.
The top four programs in the six-team BCCSL will qualify for the postseason.
Nate Skorheim got the win after going the seventh and eighth innings and allowing an unearned run on two hits.
Skorheim didn’t issue a walk and fanned one.
Peyton Lee went a scoreless ninth to earn the save.
Luke Willison drew a pair of walks, singled, tripled, and drove in a run.
Chase Bernal went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs.
Makamae DuPont doubled, scored and drove in three runs.
Lucas Gabay went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Owen Gott singled and scored.
Jaden St Cyr singled and doubled.
Mario Catalan singled and scored a pair of runs.
Sebastian Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double, run and one RBI.
Noah Wong was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits over two innings.
Wong walked three and fanned a pair of Monarchs.
David Shackleford had a big day, going 3-for-4 with a walk, double, triple, three runs and three RBIs.
Alex Salazar walked, singled, tripled, scored and drove in a run.
Shane Dougherty went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Ivan Barragan walked, was hit by pitch, and he scored two runs.
Jake Trabbie walked, had an RBI and scored a pair of runs.
Trabbie’s league-best 19-game hitting streak was finally snapped on Tuesday.
Adrian Roman went 1-for-4 with a walk, run and one RBI.
Benny Vogel had a pair of singles, a walk and one RBI.
Matt Rice and Dominic Del Hoyo had one single apiece.
