Baseball:

The Ventura County Bucs and the visiting Arroyo Seco Sentinels finished in a 5-5 tie on Saturday afternoon at LA Valley College.

The Bucs had a lot more on the line than did the Sentinels.

Arroyo Seco has already secured a Baseball Census Collegiate Summer League regular season title.

With one week to go, the Bucs, however, are on the outside looking in.

The top four programs in the six-team BCCSL will open its first postseason next Saturday, and VCB is one-game back of the fourth-place Orange County Juice in the win column.

The Bucs trailed 4-0 in the top of the fourth when they scored four of their own, and they took a 5-4 lead after getting a single run in the fifth.

The Sentinels scored once in the sixth and neither program scored in the last three innings.

Five errors cost the VCB two runs.

Arroyo Seco batting leaders:

Tommy Golbranson hit a solo HR and scored two runs.

Grant Werdesheim went 2-for-5 with a solo blast.

Omar Cisneros singled twice, scored and drove in one run.

Devon Eskridge walked and doubled.

Cam Andrews went 1-for-3 with a walk, double and two RBIs.

Nate Longoria singled and scored.

The Bucs held the first three batters in the Sentinels’ lineup to 0-for-12, but No’s 6-8 went a combined 5-for-14 with three runs and a pair of RBIs.

Ventura County batting leaders:

John Trainor went 2-for-3 with a double, run and two RBIs.

Alex Howard singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Nicholas Mattera went 2-for-4 and scored.

Skylar Chang had an RBI single, and Jarrett Segura singled and scored.

Alexander Olvera went 2-for-2 and scored.

Hunter Boylan walked and scored.

Ryker Billingsley singled once for the Bucs.

The remaining schedule for both programs is at the bottom of this story.
