Baseball:
The Ventura Bucs opened the Baseball Census Collegiate Summer League with a dominating 16-1 victory over the Arroyo Seco Royals at Ben Hines Field in La Verne.
The Bucs out-hit the Royals, 17-7, and they didn’t commit an error.
Cadan Montes went three scoreless innings for the Royals, and he allowed just one hit.
Montes didn’t issue a walk and struck out five VCB batters.
Ventura County got six runs (five earned) on six hits over two innings off of Alexander Corvera.
Corvera walked one and struck out three.
Noel Burgarin was charged with seven runs on five hits and five walks over 1 1/3 innings.
Moses Hyde went 4-for-5 with three runs, a double and one RBI.
Jarrett Segura drew three walks, doubled, drove in two and scored three times.
Hudson Story went 2-for-4 with a walk, run, double and three RBIs.
Nolan Cook singled, doubled, scored and had one RBI.
Ryker Billingsley went 3-for-3 with two walks, scored twice and drove in one.
Carson Chavez singled twice and had an RBI.
Ethan Dungo singled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.
Nicholas Mattera went 2-for-5 with a walk and three runs.
Sean Mann went three scoreless innings and allowed four hits for the Bucs.
He walked one and struck out seven.
Nate Slaman went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
Isaiah Figueroa singled twice for the Royals.
Johnathon Carretta doubled and scored.
Jordan Zuniga and Ryan Ivanyi singled once each in Thursday’s loss.
Up next: The Bucs host the OC Juice Friday at LA Valley College on Friday at 4:30.
The Royals will battle the Outlaws on Saturday at Brookside Park at 2.
