Softball:
Two weeks after securing a CIF-SS Division 3 championship, the Etiwanda softball program added a CIF State Division 2 So Cal Regional title to their historic 2024 season resume.
The Eagles scored five runs in the top of the third inning, and they were able to narrowly hold off a late charge by No. 1 seeded Mater Dei Catholic to defeat the Crusaders, 5-4, in Chula Vista.
Cameryn Ortega went 5 2/3 innings to earn the win, and she was charged with two unearned runs on three hits.
Ortega issued five walks and fanned seven MDC batters.
Kimmy Aleman got the final four outs to earn the save.
She was charged with two runs on three hits.
Aleman struck out three batters, including the last two of the game, and she did so while the potential game-tying run was on base.
Gianna Flores singled and drove in a pair of runs.
Bella Harris walked, singled and scored.
Charlize Masingale walked and singled.
Lilia Alpuche went 2-for-3 and scored one run.
Analesse Garcia went the distance, and she allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits.
Garcia issued three walks and fanned a pair of EHS batters.
Frankie Nevarez went 1-for-4, scored, and her two-run double in the top of the third gave EHS a 2-0 lead.
Karrington Bennett went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI triple.
Justyne Zabala and Brianna Gutierrez singled and scored one run apiece.
Charlotte Baum walked and had two singles.
Alysse Mendoza singled and scored.
