Baseball:
When Ayala looks back on its 2024 season, they will not hold fond memories of the Moorpark baseball program.
The Musketeers ended the Bulldogs CIF-SS D-2 and their CIF State D-2 So Cal Regional semifinal round runs.
MHS defeated AHS, 7-5, back on May 14th, after overcoming a 5-0 deficit.
Fast forward 16 days, and the Musketeers claimed a 6-3 victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Moorpark scored four times in the bottom of the first inning, and they led 6-0 before Ayala scored three runs in the top of the seventh.
Derek Nickels got the win after going five scoreless innings.
Nickels scattered four hits, issued three walks and fanned four AHS batters.
Jaden Valenzuela drew a pair of walks, singled and scored.
Caleb Trugman went 3-for-3, including the game’s lone extra-base hit (a double).
Codey Brown walked, singled and scored.
Dylan Wood walked and had an RBI single.
Brody Gomez went 2-for-3 with a bases-loaded walk.
Aiden Granados drew a pair of walks, including one in the seventh inning with the bases loaded.
Elijah Duarte reached on a fielder’s choice and scored.
Jeremy Byers got roughed up for six runs (four earned) on eight hits over three innings.
Byers issued a pair of walks and didn’t register a strikeout.
Isaac Huver provided three scoreless innings in relief.
Huver allowed one hit, walked one and struck out four Moorpark batters.
Greg Lavera went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Leon Chavez walked, singled and scored.
AJ Mai walked, singled, scored and had one RBI.
Carson Cerny singled, scored and drove in a run.
Michael Leddy went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jacob Shannon-Wilkerson singled and scored.
