West Covina didn’t just beat the No. 1 seed in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
The Bulldogs dropped the hammer on them.
WCHS cruised to a 14-3 victory over visiting Costa Mesa.
The Bulldogs out-hit the Mustangs, 12-5, on Tuesday.
Maximilian Murillo earned the win after going 5 2/3 innings and allowing one run on three hits.
Murillo issued a pair of walks and struck out eight Costa Mesa batters.
Wylan Rottschafer had an RBI double.
Will Clark went 2-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
Isaiah Mamian walked and scored.
Omar Gutierrez walked and singled.
Grady Jackson got the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits over three innings.
Jackson didn’t issue a walk and he struck out a pair of WCHS batters.
Jacob Nguyen went 2-3 with a triple, two runs and four RBIs.
Marcus Mayweather singled twice, scored two runs and drove in a pair.
Edwin Segovia singled and had one RBI.
Christian Salinas walked, doubled in a run and scored.
Garrett Mori walked, had an RBI double and scored.
Murillo helped his own cause with a walk, two doubles and he scored a pair of runs.
Austin Nguyen went 2-for-3 with two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Eric Araujo walked, singled, scored twice and had one RBI.
Up next: West Covina will host Village Christian on Friday.
The Crusaders (17-7-1) defeated Brentwood, 8-4, on Tuesday.
