Baseball:

The CIF-Southern Section Division 1 bracket is nothing less than a beast.

Four days after thumping JSerra (15-2), the No. 14 ranked team in the state by MaxPreps, Bonita hosted Harvard Westlake.

The Wolverines are ranked eighth in the nation.

Harvard Westlake got two runs in the top of the first inning, one more in the fourth and they held on for a 3-2 victory at BHS.

Jacob Magna was credited with the win after going 4 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing three hits.

Magna walked one and fanned one BHS batter.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Bonita scored twice.

But Bryce Rainer was able to negotiate his way out of a mess by coaxing a ground out to end the game.

Austin Owens singled and had an RBI ground out.

Cody White walked, singled and scored.

Diego Villa had the other BHS base hit on Tuesday.

Gavin Reeve was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over six innings of work.

Reeve walked four and struck out one Harvard-Westlake batter.

James Tronstein went 3-for-4, including an RBI double in the top of the first inning and scored one run.

Rainer walked, singled and scored.

Cade Goldstein walked, singled and had an RBI ground out.

Jack Lafitte’s RBI single in the first inning gave the Wolverines a 2-0 lead.

Ira Rootman singled and scored.

Bonita finished the season 19-8, including a 14-1 run to an outright Palomares League championship.
