College Baseball:
Five weeks ago, Mt. SAC was 6-8 in South Coast Conference games and they weren’t on pace to earn a postseason berth.
Five weeks later, the Mounties finished in second place after winning 10 of their last 11 games.
MSAC tied Long Beach in second at 16-8 in conference, but the Mounties went 2-1 against the Vikings and earned the No. 2 seed out of the SCC.
Mt. SAC scored twice in the top of the first inning, and they never trailed in Friday’s 3-1 victory at El Camino.
Matt Lorenzano went five innings, and he allowed one run on five hits.
Lorenzano walked five and fanned six.
Jaden Mackowiak earned the save after going four scoreless innings in relief.
Mackowiak allowed one hit, walked two and struck out a pair of El Camino batters.
Eric Perez hit a solo HR in the bottom of the sixth to account for the ECC run.
Ryan Matsukawa went 2-for-4 with a walk.
Mason Martinez doubled in Friday’s loss.
AJ Hiestand was charged with all three runs on seven hits.
Hiestand surrendered three hits, didn’t issue a walk and he struck out one MSAC batter.
Blake Hagerty went 3-for-4, including a two-run HR in the top of the first inning.
Kaden Moeller singled, doubled and scored.
Gibby Morales singled and scored.
Joel Gutierrez and Daniel Briones had one single apiece for the Mounties.
