Baseball:
Last year, Etiwanda swept Damien in the final week of the regular season, and it cost the Spartans the Baseline League championship.
Fast forward to 2024, and DHS secured an outright Baseline League title thanks to two consecutive wins over the Eagles.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the second inning, Damien scored five times and Rudy O’Dell made that stand up.
O’Dell went six innings, and he allowed two runs on six hits.
O’Dell issued a pair of walks and struck out two Etiwanda batters.
Jayden Avina got the final three outs to set off a celebration for the boys in green.
Jaeden Toki hit a two-run HR in the bottom of the first inning, and that would be it for the Eagles offense.
Jake Furnald went 2-for-3.
Ryan Severns walked, doubled and scored.
Jordan Rodriguez and Hayden Hull had one single each for EHS.
Damien got three runs on one hit and two walks off Dominic Fazzini in his 1 2/3 innings.
And Josh Griffin was charged with two runs on one hit and two walks in 1/3 of an inning.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the second inning, and with the bases loaded, Nikko Paoletto’s bases-clearing triple gave DHS a 5-2 lead.
The first two Damien runs had to be frustrating for Etiwanda.
With the bases loaded, JT Riley drew a walk, and then Julian Hines was hit by pitch to bring in a second run.
Hines also singled and scored, and Riley scored one run for the Spartans.
JT Lovato had one single in Thursday’s win.
Devin Perez drew two walks and scored.
Jaden Kidder walked and scored.
Andrew Carter was hit by pitch and scored.
