Baseball:

Muir is closing out the 2024 season on a high note.

The Mustangs edged their rival from Pasadena, 3-2, on Tuesday, in a Pacific League contest.

MHS has now won 13 games and they travel to PHS on Friday afternoon in their regular season finale.

The significance?

If Muir were to defeat Pasadena, the Mustangs’ 14 wins would equal the program’s 14 total wins in 2021, 2022 and 2023 combined.

Miguel Castillo earned the win.

Castillo went the distance, and he allowed two runs on seven hits.

Castillo issued one walked and he struck out nine PHS batters.

Castillo go out of a bases-load jam in the sixth.

And in the seventh, PHS had runners on first and third with one out.

Castillo coaxed a fly ball that allowed a run to score, but he would strike out to next batter to end the game.

Adrian Oseguera went 3-for-4, including a double and one run scored.

Ian Van Zyl singled and scored.

Kaleb Derosier went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Reese Kim went five innings for PHS, and he allowed three runs on five hits.

Kim walked two and struck out three Muir batters.

Vincent Bugarin’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth broke up a 1-1 tie and the Mustangs took a 3-1 lead.

Conrad Hunziker IV had an RBI double in the first to catch PHS at 1-1.

Owen Grice singled and scored two runs.

Fletcher Paddock and Arturo Ayers had one single apiece for Muir.
