Baseball:
There’s a reason Bonita’s closing in on a third consecutive Palomares League championship.
And it’s called pitching.
The Bearcats just completed a three-game sweep of Claremont by scores of 2-1, 13-1 and 2-0.
BHS got a complete-game effort from Camden Farina on Monday, and six innings from Jayden Rodriguez-Bernal on Wednesday.
Fast forward to Friday, and Jack Rudometkin tossed a two-hit shutout in the 2-0 road victory.
Rudometkin issued three walks and struck out eight.
It took the Bonita senior 100 pitches to finish what he started, and 64 went for strikes.
Cory Smykla and Ramzey Farah had the two singles for Claremont.
Since opening Palomares League play 4-2, the Wolfpack have tanked.
CHS is 0-6 (Colony & Bonita) in their last six league games, and they’ve been outscored over that stretch by a combined margin of 47-16.
Wyatt Green had a solid outing for the Wolfpack.
Green went the distance, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits.
He walked two and struck out six BHS batters.
Green threw 67 strikes during his 107-pitch outing.
Andrew Alva walked, had a pair of doubles and scored.
Cody White singled and scored.
Colton Perez singled and doubled in Friday’s win.
Spencer Savage squeezed in a run in the top of the seventh to give Rudometkin an insurance run.
The Bearcats take a two-game lead over second-place Colony into their three-game series with Glendora.
GHS is likely going to finish last in the Palomares or tied for last with Alta Loma after next week’s games are completed.
That hasn’t happened in 19 years.
BHS swept Colony in the first week of Palomares League play, so for all intents and purposes, they hold a three-game lead over the Titans.
