San Marino Catches South Pasadena Atop Rio Hondo League Standings After Thursday’s 5-3 Road Victory

Three days after a 6-5 home loss to South Pasadena, San Marino answered back.

The Titans edged their host, 5-3, on Thursday.

With two games to play in the 2024 regular season, the Titans and Tigers are tied at 7-3 in the Rio Hondo League penthouse.

San Marino has two advantages, though.

SMHS won two of their three RHL games against SPHS.

And in the final week of the regular season, San Marino has two games with last-place La Canada, while South Pasadena faces Monrovia on Monday and Thursday.

But as far as Thursday went, the Titans never trailed the Tigers.

Tomas Bilvado went 5 1/3 innings, and he allowed two runs on three hits.

Bilvado walked one and struck out four.

Brandon Strauss earned the save by going the final 1 2/3 innings.

He allowed one run on one hit, walked three and fanned a pair of SPHS batters.

Devin Robinson drew a pair of walks, singled and scored.

Aaron Kawasaki singled and scored.

Lee Castillo and Jesse Chavez singled once each for the Tigers.

Luke Riffle reached base on a fielder’s choice, and he would later score.

Griffin Johnson had an RBI ground out.

Ben Regan went 5 1/3 innings, and he allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits.

Regan issued five walks and struck out four SMHS batters.

Gabe Vogel provided 1 2/3 innings in relief, and he was charged with two unearned runs on one hit and three walks.

Four South Pasadena errors cost the Tigers four unearned runs.

Sid Danenhauer walked, singled and scored two runs.

Coleman Morning walked, singled, doubled and drove in a run.

Parker Wilson walked, singled and scored.

Bilvado walked and scored.

Mikey Yessaian singled once for the Titans.
