Baseball:
The Bishop Amat Del Rey League victory tour will march into 2025.
At the beginning of the week, Amat held a three-game lead over second-place La Salle in the win column.
But after victories of 6-2 on Tuesday, and 5-4 in eight innings on Thursday, it’s all about the boys from La Puente.
Amat also extended its win streak over La Salle to nine games, and they just secured a ninth consecutive league championship.
LSHS scored two runs in the top of the seventh to force an extra frame.
Justin Peinado went five innings, and he allowed two runs on four hits.
Peinado walked two and struck out a pair of La Salle batters.
Raymond Perez was credited with the win by going a scoreless inning on one hit and walking one.
Moses Aguirre went 2-for-4 with a run, and it was his two-run two-out double in the top of the seventh that caught Amat at 4-4.
Isaiah Romero had an RBI single in the top of the third to give La Salle a 1-0 lead.
Chris Cardenas drew a pair of walks, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Hunter Vigil, AC Nieto, Travis Ochoa and Drew Ward had one hit apiece for the Lancers.
David Mysza walked and scored.
Adrian Hernandez went four innings for La Salle, and he allowed one unearned run on no hits.
Hernandez issued three walks and fanned a pair of Amat batters.
Morgan Sullivan was charged with three unearned runs on two hits over his three innings.
Sullivan walked three and struck out three.
Frane Flores was saddled with the loss after allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk.
Gabriel Guerrero’s RBI infield single was the clincher.
Raymond Perez drew a pair of walks, had a two-run double and scored.
Isaiah Hernandez walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Miguel Perez walked and singled.
Peinado had an RBI bunt single.
The only drama left is whether La Salle (5-5) or Paraclete (5-5) will secure the Del Rey League’s No. 2 seed.
The Lancers have a two-game set with last-place Bishop Montgomery, and the Spirits will battle fourth-place Serra.
