Damien Scores Twice in the Third & Nathan Ries & Troy Lopez Made That Stand up in Spartans 2-1 Baseline League Victory at Rancho Cucamonga

Damien continues its quest for a Baseline League championship.

The Spartans edged Rancho Cucamonga, 2-1, on Wednesday, and they remain one-half a game back of Los Osos with four to play.

Nathan Ries went six innings to earn the win.

Ries surrendered one unearned run on two hits.

He walked one and struck out five RCHS batters.

Troy Lopez earned the save with a scoreless and hitless seventh.

He walked one and fanned one.

Mason Pheng walked and scored on an infield error.

Brock Foulds doubled, while Josh Almeda, Braden Longo and Jared Sclafani had one single apiece for the Cougars.

Foulds got the loss after allowing two runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Foulds issued one walk and struck out seven Damien batters.

Nikko Paoletto walked and had an RBI single in the top of the third to give Damien a 1-0 lead.

Two batters later, JT Lovato singled home a second run.

Lovato finished 2-for-3, with the RBI.

Julian Hines singled and doubled.

JT Riley singled and scored.

Tyler Tancredi walked and singled.

Jaden Kidder singled and scored.

Elius Kelly singled once for the Spartans.
