Baseball:
West Covina opened its two-game Valle Vista League series with San Dimas in second place.
The Bulldogs were 3-1, and they stood just one-game back of the Saints.
SDHS, however, claimed victories of 13-1 (five innings) and 12-1 (six innings) to distance themselves from the Bulldogs.
Vaughn Coleman earned the win after going five innings and allowing one run on two hits.
Coleman walked one and struck out six.
Jacob Nguyen walked, and Marcus Mayweather doubled him home in the top of the third.
Austyn Catano had the other Bulldog base hit.
Edwin Segovia was roughed up for nine runs (two earned) on five hits over three innings.
Segovia walked three and struck out five SDHS batters.
Landon White singled, doubled and drove in five runs.
Rocco Regan went 2-for-2, with three runs and an RBI.
Kody King walked, singled, scored twice and had one RBI.
Jayden Medina had an RBI double and scored.
Jude Favela singled, scored and drove in one.
Jason Almeda and Matt Geller had one base hit apiece, and Coleman scored one run to help his own cause.
Kasen Khansarinia drew a pair of walks and scored three runs.
Up next: San Dimas has a pair of two-game sets with Northview and Covina, respectively, and they remain the only program VVL program without a loss.
