Carson Kelly & Baron Lutz Combine to Keep Whittier Christian Offense in Check; Maranatha Claims 10-2 Olympic League Victory Over Heralds

Baseball:

Maranatha keeps inching closer and closer to an outright Olympic League championship.

The Minutemen scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth, and they went on to secure a 10-2 victory over Whittier Christian.

MHS holds a three-game lead (in the loss column) over Village and Valley Christian High Schools.

Ryan Erickson got the loss after allowing five runs on five hits and three walks over three innings.

Thomas Lieb went 2-for-4, with a double, run and two RBIs.

Josh Proctor walked, singled, doubled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Jacob Yun walked, singled, scored and had two RBIs.

Zach Strickland drew a pair of walks, singled and scored.

Carter Shupper and Dylan Garcia walked and scored one run apiece.

Eric Zdunek singled and scored.

Gabe Barragan singled, scored and drove in one.

AJ Beltre walked twice and scored.

Doug Zuniga scored and had one RBI.

Carson Kelly earned the win by going 5 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits.

Kelly issued a pair of walks and struck out five.

Baron Lutz provided 1 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless innings in relief.

Lutz walked one and fanned a pair of WCHS batters.

Up next: The Heralds and Minutemen will meet again tonight (Friday) at 6 to conclude their three-game set.
