Baseball:
It took Rio Hondo Prep seven tries before the Kares finally secured Prep League victory No. 1 on Tuesday.
And handing their rival from Poly an 11-2 ass kicking had to make the day even more special for RHP.
The Panthers entered Tuesday’s contest with a record of 6-0 in Prep League games.
Chase Engstrom went 3 1/3 innings for the Panthers, and he allowed six runs (two earned) on three hits.
Engstrom issued four walks and struck out four RHP batters.
The Kares got five runs (three earned) on two hits off Connor Poon.
Poon walked three and fanned four.
Nate Curtis singled, scored a pair of runs and had two RBIs.
Joshua Taflinger tripled and drove in a pair of runs.
Noah Penunuri went 2-for-2, with two walks, a double, three runs and one RBI.
Brayden Vinton walked, scored and had one RBI.
Ivan Tkach doubled and scored.
Easton Jara singled, scored twice and had one RBI.
Yanick Diaz walked and had an RBI ground out.
Diego Householder drew a pair of walks and scored twice.
Joshua Taflinger earned the win after going six innings and allowing two runs on three hits.
Taflinger walked five and fanned four Poly batters.
Sean Asperger hit a two-run HR in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Caiden Kennedy drew a pair of walks and scored.
Engstrom walked and singled.
Luke Kim singled for the Panthers.
The game was not a thing of beauty.
Rio Hondo Prep (4) and Poly (5) combined to commit nine errors.
The only stat that mattered, though, were the numbers 11 and 2 on the scoreboard.
Up next: RHP will host Poly on Friday at 3:15.
