Gabe Barragan Goes 3-for-3 w/Grand Slam & Five RBIs in Maranatha’s 9-1 Olympic League Victory at Whittier Christian

Baseball:

With six (league) games to play in the 2024 regular season, Maranatha is inching closer to yet another Olympic League championship.

On Tuesday, the Minutemen secured a 9-1 six-inning victory over their host from Whittier Christian.

Maranatha out-hit the Heralds, 7-2, and they took advantage of five WCHS errors.

MHS is two games ahead of second-place Valley Christian in the win column.

Zach Strickland went 5 2/3 innings to earn the win, and he allowed one run on two hits.

Strickland issued three walks and struck out nine.

Offensively, Gabe Barragan went 3-for-3, including a grand slam and five RBIs.

Thomas Leib walked, had a pair of singles, and he scored two runs.

Strickland walked, scored twice and had one RBI.

Matthew Kurkdjian had an RBI single in the top of the fourth to give MHS a 4-0 lead.

Josh Proctor walked and scored.

Lukus Perez singled in Tuesday’s win.

Up next: MHS will host Whittier Christian on Thursday night at 6.
