College Baseball:
Chaffey College completed a three-game sweep this week of Mt. San Jacinto.
The Panthers and Eagles will play one more time on April 25th.
But Chaffey leapfrogged Mt. San Jacinto this week atop the Inland Empire Athletic Conference standings, thanks to a 6-3 victory on Saturday.
Donovann Jackson went seven innings to earn the win.
Jackson surrendered three runs on five hits.
He walked three and struck out seven.
Josh VerKuilen earned the save after two scoreless innings in relief.
VerKuilen didn’t issue a walk and fanned a pair of MSJC batters.
Greg Luna went 3-for-5 with a run and one RBI.
Christian Smith walked, singled and scored.
Dominick Lombardi had two singles and an RBI.
Dayton Thompson singled and scored.
Joseph Romero was stuck with the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits over his five innings.
Romero walked two and he struck out six.
Devean Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a run and his two-run single in the fourth inning gave Chaffey a 4-1 lead.
Preston Allen singled, scored and had an RBI double.
PJ Torrez doubled and scored.
Yahir Ramirez had a pair of RBI singles.
David Loera singled and scored.
Aaron Whobrey doubled and scored.
Javier Mendez walked and had a pair of singles.
Michael Harrison’s RBI single in the eighth capped the scoring for the Panthers.
Jacob Billings walked and singled.
