College Baseball:
The defending Inland Empire Athletic Conference champs have overtaken Mt. San Jacinto in the IEAC penthouse thanks to wins in the first two of a three-game series with the Eagles.
The Panthers edged MSJC, 6-5, in Tuesday’s 12-inning game, and two days later, Chaffey secured an 8-5 victory.
Joseph O’Regan was credited with the win after going six innings and allowing four runs on six hits.
O’Regan walked one and struck out eight.
Damien Hernandez earned a two-inning save and allowed just one hit.
Christian Smith went 3-for-5, with a double, run and three RBIs.
Juni Rodriguez walked, singled and drove in a run.
Tanner Aoki singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Josh McAninch singled and scored.
Greg Luna walked and scored.
Evan Stratton was stuck with the loss.
Stratton went 3 1/3 innings, and he surrendered seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits.
Stratton walked one and fanned a pair of Chaffey batters.
Ryder Young went 3-for-5, with an HR, double, three runs and three RBIs.
PJ Torrez doubled, had a two-run HR, scored twice and drove in two.
Jacob Billings singled and scored.
Yahir Ramirez doubled and scored, and Christian Mosqueda singled and scored.
Javier Mendez had an RBI single.
Preston Allen singled and doubled.
David Loera had one single in Thursday’s win.
Up next: Chaffey will be at home on Saturday as they go for the sweep.
