Baseball:
The 57th ranked team in the state (MaxPreps) defeated No. 24 at Thursday’s Boras Classic.
Maranatha edged a very good and well coached La Mirada team, 3-2.
Luke Armijo went six innings, and he allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits.
Armijo issued one walk and struck out seven Maranatha batters.
Matthew Kurkdjian had an RBI double in the fifth to catch La Mirada at 1-1.
In the sixth, and trailing 2-1, Jacob Yun had a two-RBI double for what turned out to be the game winning runs.
Yun also singled on Thursday.
Zach Strickland and Eric Zdunek singled and scored one run apiece.
Thomas Lieb had a pair of singles.
Carson Kelly went five innings for MHS, and he surrendered two runs on four hits.
Kelly walked three and he fanned five LMHS batters.
Baron Lutz and AJ Beltre provided one scoreless inning in relief.
Lutz was credited with the win, and the son of soon-to-be MLB Hall of Famer Adrian Beltre earned the save.
Aiden Aguayo tripled and scored.
Travis Friend had an RBI double.
Sebastian DeAvila singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Bear Calvo walked and scored.
Tyler Primanto and Froy Serna had one hit apiece for LMHS.
