Baseball:
After Wednesday’s 13-3 Valle Vista League ass kicking at the hands of Covina in six innings, the West Covina baseball program bounced back in a big way.
The Bulldogs were able to grind out a 5-4 victory at Covina in 10 innings.
West Covina and Covina both scored runs in the ninth to force a 10th inning.
WCHS improved to 3-1 in VVL games, which is good for second place.
Marcus Mayweather got the win after allowing one run on six hits and three walks over five innings.
Vincent Marichi provided two scoreless and hitless innings for WCHS.
Marichi didn’t issue a walk and fanned a pair of Covina batters.
Ryan Silva went 2-for-5, with two RBIs.
Ryan Sarver singled twice and scored.
Ricky Alvarez singled and scored.
Donovan Rendon singled and doubled.
Jeremiah Pacheco drew a pair of walks, singled, doubled, scored and had one RBI.
Carter Ulrich got the loss after allowing a 10th inning run on two hits.
Declan Bowers had gone nine innings, and he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits.
Bowers didn’t walk anyone, and he struck out six WCHS batters.
Jacob Nguyen doubled, tripled and scored two runs.
Christian Salinas singled, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Edwin Segovia went 2-for-5.
Garrett Mori doubled and scored.
Austyn Catano drove in a run on a sac fly.
Mayweather doubled, scored and his sac fly in the first gave WCHS a 1-0 lead.
Izaiah Hernandez had an RBI single in the fifth.
Up next: WCHS will battle Hueneme on Monday at 12:30, and CHS faces Gahr on Monday at noon in the National Classic.
