Damien secured a 6-2 victory over Upland on Thursday, and in the process, the Spartans claimed the three-game Baseline League series over the Highlanders, 2-1.
Rudy O’Dell went 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on three hits.
O’Dell walked one and fanned six UHS batters.
Troy Lopez provided 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Carlos Arteaga singled, doubled and drove in both Upland runs.
Dominic Nava singled and scored.
Noah Garbick singled once for the Highlanders.
Issac Carlos got the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings.
Andrew Carter singled, doubled and drove in three runs.
Eli Bechtel went 3-for-3, with a run and one RBI.
Nikko Paoletto walked, singled, drove in a run and scored two runs.
Ty Trancredi walked twice and scored two runs.
Julian Hines walked and scored.
Elius Kelly drew a walk with the bases loaded.
JT Riley singled once in Thursday’s win.
Up next: Damien will face Santa Margarita on Monday morning at 9:30 at the National Classic.
Upland will host Los Osos on Monday in the first of a three-game Baseline League series with the Grizzlies.
