Baseball:
It’s always a significant accomplishment when beating an Orange County power like Mater Dei.
But what had to make it even more special was watching freshman Frane Flores earn the win.
Flores went four innings, and he allowed one run on four hits in La Salle’s 5-1 victory at Mater Dei.
Flores walked three and struck out four.
Morgan Sullivan provided 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
Sullivan scattered three hits and walked one.
Moses Aguirre got the final out for the Lancers.
Brandon Thomas walked, singled and scored.
Brody Connors went 2-for-4.
Sam Tucci walked, singled and had an RBI ground out.
Austin Palmares, Ezekiel Lara and Johnny Elliott had one single apiece for the Monarchs.
Kai Bratton got the loss after allowing four runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Bratton issued one walk and struck out six La Salle batters.
Chris Cardenas hit a two-run HR.
Aguirre singled and drove in three runs.
David Mysza walked, singled and scored.
Hunter Vigil singled and scored.
Drew Ward doubled and scored.
Travis Ochoa walked and scored, and Isaiah Romero had one base hit for La Salle.
Up next: The Lancers will host Lipscomb Academy in a Saturday doubleheader.
