St. Francis Edges Loyola, 3-2, to Complete First Three-Game Mission League Sweep of Cubs in Program History; Dane Shepard Hits 2-Run HR

Baseball:

St. Francis just secured (what they believe to be) its first three-game Mission League sweep over Loyola in program history.

The Golden Knights edged the visiting Cubs, 3-2, at the Glendale Sports Complex.

SFHS scored three times in the bottom of the second, and LHS got both of their runs in the top of the seventh.

Aaron Hernandez went 3 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed five hits.

Hernandez walked one and fanned a pair of Loyola batters.

Kalani Quiroz was touched up for two runs on four hits over 2 2/3 innings.

He didn’t issue a walk and struck out two.

Kal-El Holguin would get the Golden Knights out of a seventh-inning jam to ensure the historic sweep.

Augie Lopez hit a solo HR, and Brandon Bendel’s RBI ground out pulled the Cubs to within 3-2 of SFHS.

Lopez finished the day 2-for-4.

James Dellamico singled twice and scored.

Brady Hyer singled and doubled.

Samuel Gonzalez walked, and he had a pair of singles in the loss.

Loyola’s Caden Chavez allowed three runs on three hits over three innings.

Chavez walked five and struck out two.

Kalani Quiroz doubled in Brody Ruyle in the bottom of the third to give St. Francis a 1-0 lead.

Dane Shepard followed that with a two-run HR.

Ruyle singled and scored.

Up next: According to the SFHS MaxPreps page, the Golden Knights will host Lakewood on April 1st at 4.
